Our purpose

One community at a time

Starfish Ministries is a Christian ministry based in Seward, Alaska, focused on serving people through hospitality, practical assistance, prayer, and outreach.

Our calling is to demonstrate the unconditional love of Jesus Christ through practical service, compassion, and lifelong relationships. We serve without conditions, share the Gospel without pressure, and continue walking alongside people through friendship and discipleship.

Love. Serve. Disciple. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations” (Matthew 28:19, NKJV). We seek to live out the Great Commission through lasting relationships, faithful service, and ongoing discipleship.

Why Starfish?

A moment on an Alaskan beach that helped shape our calling.

Before Starfish Ministries had a name, Pastor Steve and I traveled from Indiana to Alaska to explore where God was calling me. On a hike near Whittier, we reached a cove where the tide had gone out, leaving starfish scattered across the beach.

We began carrying starfish back to the water. There were so many that Pastor Steve said we could never make a difference for all of them. Holding one starfish, I replied:

“Well, it matters to this one.”

That moment stayed with me. We may not be able to help everyone, but we can faithfully help the person God places in front of us. We want to use the gifts He has given us to meet practical needs, build lifelong friendships, share Jesus when the door opens, and keep showing up regardless of anyone's response.

We serve because of our faith, not because of yours.

Faithful with What We Are Given

In the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14–30, NKJV), Jesus teaches about faithfully using what has been entrusted to us. We believe our time, abilities, resources, and opportunities are gifts to steward in service to others and for God’s glory.

We may not be able to meet every need, but we can faithfully use what is in our hands to make a meaningful difference, one person and one community at a time.
